Mission Overview
At Veteran Educational Gardening (VEG), our mission is rooted in three core principles:
Community over profit. Healing over money. Love over fear.
We exist to empower veterans, patients, and everyday individuals through education, natural healing, and community connection. By teaching people how to safely grow and process their own plant-based medicine, we help them reclaim their health, independence, and confidence.
VEG is committed to sustainability, hands-on learning, and compassionate outreach. Our goal is to ensure that no person seeking natural healing is left without resources, guidance, or support. Through education, outreach, and community-focused initiatives, we work to create a world where healing is accessible, holistic, and shared.
Organizational Story
Veteran Educational Gardening LLC was founded by Doug Meager, a disabled veteran and lifelong cultivator with over 30 years of cannabis-growing experience. After witnessing the struggles faced by veterans and patients navigating traditional healthcare systems, Doug dedicated himself to creating a place where people could learn, heal, and reconnect with the earth—and with each other.
What began as Doug’s personal mission has grown into a nonprofit organization serving a diverse community of veterans, caregivers, patients, and volunteers. VEG offers education in natural cultivation methods, safe processing techniques, and responsible use of plant-based medicine. Every part of the organization is designed to prioritize compassion, empowerment, and accessibility.
Through Compassionate Healing Hands, VEG’s outreach arm, the organization donates Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) to cancer patients and individuals fighting serious illness. This program provides not only free or donation-based medicine, but also education, emotional support, and a community space where families can find hope and connection.
As VEG expands, both digitally and physically, the vision remains clear:
To build a community-driven hub of healing and learning—online and in person—where veterans, patients, and supporters can access resources, training, and compassionate care.
